Mould Remediation ImageMould can be found everywhere inside as well as outside, but are usually at levels that do not affect people. There are thousands of known species of mould. They all require moisture for growth and they reproduce by producing very large numbers of small spores. Mould can grow at varying temperatures and conditions such as refrigerators, snow, highly acidic solvents, jet fuel and even anti-bacterial soap. Mould goes by a variety of names including toxic mould, house mould, black mould and toxic black mould. Mould spores require three things for growth: nutrients (such as paper, organic matter or fabrics), moisture (to begin the decaying process) and time (mould growth begins in 24 - 72 hours). Remove any one of these requirements and the mould will go dormant. This does not mean it is no longer a hazard, it just means it not growing anymore.

Corner Mould ImageMould is usually found in damp, dark or steamy areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, recent flooded areas, cluttered storage areas/rooms, basements, plumbing areas and areas with poor ventilation and humid conditions.

Mould Remediation may be required.

Mould Hazards ImageMould inside buildings can cause a variety of sometimes hard to diagnose health problems. Symptoms caused by allergies to mould can include:

  • Watery, itchy eyes
  • Chronic cough
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Rashes
  • Tiredness
  • Sinus problems
  • Nasal blockage
  • Frequent sneezing

What To Do If You Have It

Mould Removal ImageRemoval of the affected material is the only way to be certain of complete mould remediation. This should be done by a professional mould remediation contractor like us. We will follow the protocols set out in the Best Practices Mould at the Work Site Manual by the Government of Alberta. The source of the moisture must be eliminated before new materials can be installed. Mould removal by non-professionals puts everyone at risk of exposure by cross contamination. An assessment, sampling (air or surface) and remediation are required to be successful in acquiring full mould clearance. Vericlean Abatement Group and our knowledgeable technicians are IICRC (is a certification and standard-setting non-profit organization) certified. We specialize and have extensive experience in small to large mould remediation projects including residential to commercial buildings.
